  1. Escolar. Illegal for sale in Italy and Japan, two of the biggest seafood countries in the world. Associated with keriorrhea at around 4 oz, sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on the person

  2. Butterfish or Escolar. That’s probably as much as you’d want to eat.

  3. Escolar or aka White Tuna. I found out when I had sushi in Japan they didn’t even know what it was.

  4. The thing I tell them to omit from every order I make. It’s putrid. I love fatty flavors, but to me this is straight grease.

  5. Oh my god. I had no idea escolar causes the runs. It’s my favorite fish. Once I bought a large brick of it from my local fish market and ate the entire thing in one sitting. In. One. Sitting. (Cut up sashimi style) I don’t remember getting ill but if I did I’m sure I’d remember something that traumatic.

  6. I love escolar and have NEVER had a stomach issues with it, and I’ll eat a shit ton of those little bastards!

  7. Is this chirashi? Whenever I order sashimi they NEVER give me rice on the side,do ppl ask for this?

  8. Escolar, and it is a terrible fish that tastes good but you are actually eating waxy esters and it is heavily detrimental to your immediate gastric health shortly after consumption. Scale of tragedy depends on amount ingested and personal digestive traits. This fish should not be consumed by any species who cannot cleave from waxy esters.

  9. If you can eat Taco Bell, you can eat Butterfish. Just make sure you have phone charged for the toilet time.

  10. As a sushi chef I don’t like to serve it and I don’t like to eat escolar. But to each their own. It’s also a very oily fish so it’s hard to process.

    Salmon: Good oily fish

    Escolar: Bad oily fish

  11. It’s escolar, my favorite sushi fish. I’ve heard it can have detrimental effects but I have a sensitive stomach and miso soup and iceberg lettuce hit me harder than escolar, aka white tuna, ever does. Maybe I haven’t eaten enough to cause upset but I’ve eaten a lot at once several times I’ve been fine. I always save a piece for the end of the meal, it’s my dessert sushi.
