I just made a booking for the JR EAST hotel in Shibuya via https://go-jrhotel-m.reservation.jp/en/ website as it gave a more competitive price than booking partners, but as I clicked through I chose “pay at hotel” for pay later – no credit card information or payment details were asked of me.
Cancellation policy on the website says free cancellation up to one day prior to the date of check-in, but charges 100% for no show or 20% if cancelled on the check-in day itself.
I received a confirmation email with a QR code for check-in.
Just wondering if this is normal? As I’m curious how they’ll charge me for cancellation if they don’t have any of my payment details – they only have my address at most. I feel uneasy wondering if my reservation is actually secured without a payment method attached.
Would be grateful if someone could share their experience of booking directly via the website! Just want to be sure my stay is secured.
