Hey all! myself and my brother are going on a 3 week trip to Japan for which we have 2/3rds all mapped out. It is just the small period from Dec 2nd until the 6th we are in a bit of a bind over. Previously we considered the Awaji Island before we came across Nikko. Just 2 hours north of Tokyo we would be close to a world heritage site, a beautiful waterfall and of course a generally gorgeous mountainous view.
What i'm struggling with is that we might have a bit too much time on our hands plus the fact that we obviously won't experience the gorgeous fall colors in their prime. With that being said, Nikko still has raving reviews and nothing would stop us from taking a day trip into Tokyo or any other surrounding cities/towns.
If anyone has suggestions on how else we might be able to fill our time i would be eternally grateful! I should also mention that we do solely rely on public transport and will not be renting a car ourselves.
