Paying pension during period between jobs

Hi everyone. I have a question regarding the national pension + taxes. I finished my ALT job on July 31st in Kyushu and my new job starts on September 3rd in Tokyo, so I basically have a month to move and get settled. I’ve already moved to Tokyo and did the 転出届 procedures back in Kyushu and will do the 転入届 this week. My question is do I have to pay into any pension, taxes, or health insurance during this time? I’ve already signed contracts with my new job and gotten my visa changed at immigration accordingly so I’m not technically unemployed, just in a weird limbo period. My company will automatically deduct pension and health insurance from my paycheck every month.
Is this something I should reach out to my company about?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Were you still an employee july 31st? I.e was that your last day,

If so then you need to enroll in (and pay) national pension and national health insurance for August 2024.

If you were not an employee july 31st, then you also need to pay national July 2024 too.

Then in September when you start your new job, you need to unregister from national.

Regarding resident tax you, if your previous employer didn’t take what remains of your 2023 resident tax (billed July 2023 to May 2024) edit sorry July 2024 to May 2025… brain fart

via special collection. Then you have to pay what remains yourself via the bills which will get sent to you.
