How do I pay my JP Bank Visa ALtente card payments?

This might be a very simple/stupid question but I’m new to everything. I recently moved to Japan. Applied for a credit card from JP Bank after creating an account there and getting a cash card. It was approved and I did some shopping. Now, I’m confused about how should I pay it off. Are they going to directly deduct it from my bank account in the next billing cycle or do I have to go somewhere specific to pay it off? Is there any way to do it online? If anyone could explain how the whole thing works that would be very helpful.

Elaborate answers would be appreciated. Thank you for your time and have a good day.

  1. Generally credit cards are set to be paid off in full (direct-debit) the following month. If you applied for the card with your JP account it will be linked to your account. (Unless you opted in to “revolving” payments, though you would generally need to eplicitly do this.)

If it is not a credit card, but a direct-debit card over the MasterCard/Visa network, then it will directly withdraw funds from your account when used.

  2. Don’t waste your time with JP Post. According to my experience, they’re going to deny your request for any other cards aside of the cash card, which is useless other than for drawing cash from ATM. Go for other CC company which allow you to collect points. For instance, if you often shop at AEON, get CC with them.

If JP Post account is not absolutely necessary for you to have, I advise you to wait till you spent at least 6 months then go to other banks like SMBC Prestia (English) or MUFG (if you’re confident in your Japanese then get their debit card easily and CC if you want.

In the meantime, your option is to pay everything cash, bank transfers, or use automatic withdrawals (for rent, utilities etc)till you get credit/debit card. Another option is to use PayPay, LinePay etc (e-wallet) and top-up from your bank. But I think you can’t use it for online shopping.
