So this semester I'm starting an exchange programme at Nanzan univeristy in Nagoya and I'm getting a little bit of confusing info regarding my departure date. So the programme ends on 23th of December and I received info that I'm supposed to leave on 27th(though on their website QA section its says students are allowed to stay till the end of semster…). The issue is that my home institution allows me to stay a whole week longer. I don't really want to go back on 27th since the prices of flights right after christams are plain terrible and I'd like to spent some more time sightseeing. I did email the Nanzan Office and their response was that "it would be gratly appriciated" which doesn't mean anything really.
My question is that given that my visa won't expire for another month and I would be staying at friends/in hotel during that week would there actually be any consequences or legal problems with staying that week longer? Has anyone have similar issues with studying abroad in Japan?
