Activities on “East” side of the Island

Hello –

My family and I will be visiting Okinawa for a week here in a couple of months and I am putting together our itinerary. We've got plenty to do around Naha, Chatan, and up near Nago/Motobu. For the drive back to Naha from Nago, I would like to drive back down on the east side, either on E58 or 331 just for a change of scenery. Does anyone have any recommendations for some quick stops along the way?

I realize it's only a couple of hours and I don't HAVE to do anything on the way back, but in the interest of broadening our experience I thought we'd turn a 2 hour drive into a leisurely meander back to Naha and hit up a few sites/activities.

We will be traveling with two small children – so far I've got the Sea Glass Beach, the Okinawa Comprehensive Park Playground, and then a quick bip inland to hit up the Pokemon Center for my older daughter (and myself). Also looking for lunch recommendations along that side.

Thanks!

  1. Bunch of pick yourself strawberry farms are in kin on that side. That’s a very genuinely japanese experience but it’s intimidating because you have to call on the phone and make an appointment with someone who probably doesn’t speak english. However your hotel desk could probably set it up for you.

  2. If you are going all the way to Uruma, you can continue to the bridge between Okinawa and Henza Island. If the tide is in you will see lots of wind/kite surfers there.

  3. Just a little ways south of the athletic park is a really yummy shaved ice place called Hyougetsuya. Just a heads up though, they only take cash.

If you do end up going to Rycom mall for the Pokemon center, there is a plethora of restaurants to choose from. We get brunch up at the Rose Garden over there pretty often.

For a site to see, the Kitanakagusuku Castle ruins are one of the better ones on the island, imo.
