Hi 🙂
I’m hoping to apply for a working holiday visa with entry for early next yr, from the UK. There’s a lot of info out there but there’s a couple of things I need help wrapping my head around.
Is the visa/status of residence only valid for one year exactly? As in the exact date of arrival should be the exact date of departure? I’m wondering because I’m not sure how that would work with finding a living arrangement, I’m hoping to stay in Tokyo the year and travelling around from there (I’ve found some with allowances for 1 year leases) but I know you can’t typically rent from overseas so I would have to begin the whole process there, I guess meaning the lease would start from maybe 2 weeks to a month after I arrive.
I read something somewhere that said you can stay on a 3 month tourist visa at the end of your working holiday, does anyone know if that’s true?

My other question is how far in advance I should apply for the visa/what the timeline of processing it is like (especially now because of COVID I guess things have changed now).

Any info would be really helpful, thank you <3

Your status of residence will be valid for 6 months from when you enter Japan. You will be allowed to extend this once for an additional 6 months.

Don’t plan on it. Any stories you may read about people doing it are exceptions which most likely would not apply to you.
