Doing a two week trip up and down the east coast in September

I've bought some airline tickets recently, I'll be landing in Tokyo Narita airport on the 25th of September and then I'll be leaving Narita again on the 7th of October. I've already been to Tokyo twice before back in the early 2000s I have a vague idea of what it was like. But I'd like to go and see all the other major cities up and down the east coast and come back to Tokyo at the end of it.

I'd like to go and see Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima and some of the other cities down south. I originally would've like to have gone north to Hokkaido but not sure if I will have enough time or be able to logistically plan it and make it work properly because I need to get back to Tokyo. I'm also worried about the cold weather and the snow because I don't have enough gear for serious snow travel. I'm wondering what the best way to get around from each city would be? Is the train system the most tourist friendly? I've looked into getting Suica cards that you can get at the airport and they basically work like bank/debit cards and you can use them both at the train stations and in stores. Is that right?

I'm also thinking about the best way to book accommodation. Does Air BnB still work in Japan? Or is it better to call a hotel and make a reservation? I'd prefer a decent hotel. My budget is mid-range anywhere from $100-$150 a night for a single person. I'm sorry if this is a really obvious post and gets asked a lot.
