Hello everyone!
After quite some googling and browsing I am turning to Reddit, as I ve encountered different information on this matter.
I hope some real life advice from ppl who re living the dream might clear things up!😄
I read through the visa wiki, but found myself a bit confused still 😅
Basically, we are a household of 2 siblings and want to move to Japan within the next 2.5-4 years.
As for me, I have a Bachelor's in the Social Science Field (Social Worker), with 3 years of experience in the field.
However, a year ago I have transitioned to IT.
In IT I have no formal degree or anything.
I did a 5-month boot camp for databases, web dev and java, and then got started as Service Desk / Remote Support Engineer.
I will work on getting some certs and education, but its nothing like a Bachelor's.
I plan on getting some ITIL Certs, as well as becoming a certified Network Admin. Perhaps also a System Admin diploma.
However, I have yet to find out if these two Diplomas have any real value on an international scale. I ll have to check with the institute offering these diplomas.
So worst case, in IT i might only bring my 3-5 years of work experience, in case my diplomas and certs aren't worth anything.
I really want to remain in IT and see myself working that field.
As for my sibling, he currently has 5 years of experience working as a nurse, as well as being certified as one.
He does not have a BA yet, but he can basically do a Bachelor's as a nurse. This will allow him to have his diploma be recognized internationally. Unfortunately I do not know the actual name of the BA by heart.
Since he already did the formal training, this BA will only take one extra year for him.
However, he too might switch to IT. Not set in stone yet, but for this thread i would like to explore this scenario further.
If things play out this way, he too would have his BA and work experience as a Nurse, but would do a software dev bootcamp and aim to gather 1 year of experience as Dev before making the jump overseas.
Long story short – would it be a problem for our work visas if we worked Jobs wildly different to the BAs we got?
Or would it be fine, as long as we find IT Companies which would hire us and support our work visas?
Thank you in advance for everyone s time and help!
I hope I provided sufficient information on our plans and situation!
