Hi all! My boyfriend and I have dreampt of moving to Japan for about 6 years now, but we were waiting on me to finish my bachelors. I'm all accounted for on getting a visa as I actually have a job connection in Japan from when i went on exchange pre-covid. Though this job doesnt make enough on its own to support two people. So our only problem is: he couldn't get his bachelors as he discovered he does not do well in traditional school environments. Now, he does have experience in culinary (5 years) and mechanic work (3 years). We did research and, from what we see, it seems that he may not be able to get a work visa at all. Is that true?
If so, he's thinking of doing trade school to get his vehicle mechanic certifications. Would he be able to get his visa then? Lots of what we looked into about trades told us different things so im hoping to get some clarity. Thanks in advance!
(Edit: just wanted to add, I am decently fluent in Japanese as I lived in Tsuru on exchange in high school after studying stateside for a few years. He is not fluent, but I have been teaching him bits and pieces for the past 7 years we've been together.)
