ib and kyoto uni

Hey all!

I'm an IB student seeking advice from current or former kyoto iUP students that got in or know (of) someone that got in with the IB. Any useful feedback is greatly appreciated tho!

I am about to start DP year 2 of the IB program and I'd like to apply to Kyoto university iUP in October this year (to enroll in oct. 2025). I have been fascinated with Japan and its culture since I was a child and I have dreamed of studying in Kyoto for a very long time!

I am choosing the iUP since my Japanese language ability is not sufficient to apply through the "regular" program.
I am taking the following subjects (with my predicted grades for each for year 1):

  • French A lang and lit HL: 6/7 (under predicted) – Economics HL: 6/7 (I could get a 7 tho) – Math AI HL: 7/7 (unsure abt this one but that's the results I got on my mocks so idk) – Biology SL: 5/7 (could work my way up to a 6) – English A lang and lit SL: 5/7 (under predicted) (real would be 6) – Business management: 7/7

Total: 36/42 based on teachers' predictions and 38/42 (my predictions based on mocks results). Not counting tok and ee points but if I have to make a prediction I think I'd get a 2 so that'd take me to a 38~40/45

Furthermore, I do meet the subject requirements of my desired faculty: economics (confirmed by the admissions office through an inquiry)

So, if we take everything into account and that everything goes to plan, I could get somewhere between a 38 to a 41. But let's keep the 38 just in case something happens in one subject. Would it be sufficient to get in or should I aim for a higher score? (All of this considering that, by the application deadline, I will only be able to provide my year 1 predicted grades.)

Also, considering the TOEFL, I'll soon be taking the iBT home edition and I think I'll score well on this as well (have lived in the states, i interact w people daily in English, writing essays, reading, etc.)

Thank you so much in advance for your help and insight and I am grateful you took the time to read that loooong post haha!☺️
