Japanese in the Corporate World

I recently got a job at a large Japanese multinational corporation in the UK and am seriously thinking about taking Japanese lessons and develop my skills in the language.
Just for added clarity, I won't be in regular contact with colleagues or superiors from Japan very often.
Would this be well perceived by most Japanese colleagues / executives and others, based on your experience?

I'm really curious and somewhat anxious about it.
