I'm applying for a home loan and the the bank informed my realtor that I did not pay ¥30,000 to Softbank in 2013. I used Softbank from 2006 to 2016, until I switched to docomo in 2017. I called Softbank to clear things up and they said that I actually owe ¥80,000 in unpaid bills. The agent couldn't explain what those bills were all about, and why I wasn't billed when I was still using their service. When I switched to docomo in 2017, Softbank never sent me any bills so I thought things were in the clear.
Now, it looks like I ran away from paying Softbank and it might affect my home loan application. Is there anything I can do about this? Is there a statute of limitations on debt like this, or should I just pony up?
