Planning my next trip to Japan for next January 2025. We would like to spend some time near Mt Fuji (Kawaguchiko) and then going to the Nagano region to see the snow monkeys.
We plan to rent a car when we get to Kawaguchiko. Tentative plan:
Day 1: arrive to Kawaguchiko from Tokyo, Car rental
Day 2 to 3: Kawaguchiko
Day 4: This is what I need some help on. We plan to leave Kawaguchiko early in the morning. We want to see parts of the Nakasendo trail. We are open to hiking but it will be difficult for us with a car (and also may be too cold in Jan?). We plan to overnight in Narai juku. But it seems to be too much if we were to spend the whole day there and overnight .
Does it make sense to visit Magome/Tsumago during the day, drive to Narai juku and overnight there? Worth it to do parts of a trail (narai juku to yabuhara or magome to tsumago) and then turn back?
Day 5 onwards – head to Matsumoto/Nagano city.
