This is my possible itinerary (17 days), I’m traveling for first time to Japan with my bf (31M).
I’ve spent A LOT of time reading posts in this community, so I did my best to adjust days and places that have been recommended so this is my best itinerary (for now), I haven’t booked any accommodation so it can be modified.
Day 1 – Tokyo to Osaka
- Arrive to Tokyo at 4:45 PM
- Travel to Osaka in Shinkansen
- Arrive to Osaka 8 – 9 PM
- Check in Hotel Osaka
Day 2 and 3 – Osaka
- Dotonbori
- Tsutenkaku Tower at Shin-sekai
- Minoh Park
- Acuarium (?)
- Namba
- Anime town
- Osaka Castle
Day 4 – Osaka
- Universal Studios (ALL DAY ?)
Day 5 – Osaka – Nara – Osaka
- Day trip to Nara
- Return to Osaka
Day 6 – Osaka to Koyasan
- Check out Osaka
- Travel to Koyasan
- Visit Koyasan
- Check in Shukubo
Day 7 – Koyasan to Kyoto
- Check out Shukubo
- Finish sightseeing Koyasan
- Travel to Kyoto
- Check in at Kyoto hotel
Day 8, 9, 10 – Kyoto
- Check out Koyasan
- Travel to Kyoto
- Check in hotel in Kyoto
- Golden Pavilion
- Kinaku-ji Temple
- Hozugawa River
- Arashiyama Area
- Tea Ceremony
Day 11 – Kyoto to Hakone
- Check out Kyoto
- Travel to Hakone

Day 12 – Hakone to Tokyo

Day 13 – Tokyo
- Team Lab

- Disney Sea
- Open for suggestions
Day 15 – Tokyo

Day 16 – Tokyo – Kamakura – Tokyo
- Day trip to Kamakura
- Return to Tokyo
Day 17 – Tokyo – LAX
- Free morning for Tokyo
- Check out
- Return trip in the evening (6PM)
I’m a little bit worried about the travel from Kyoto to Hakone since we’ll be staying just ONE night.
Are we forgetting anything major as first timers? Is this too ambitious? Are there other places we should check out instead?
Foods we want to try:
- Street foods
- Ramen
- Wagyu and Kobe beef
- Sushi
- Omakase
- ALL MATCHA things (I LOOOVE MATCHA)
We are also looking for a nice and romantic dinner place (Any suggestion I would be very happy) I thought about Tokyo.
Where is the best place to rent Kimono?
BONUS: During the trip will be my boyfriend’s birthday in Tokyo where can we have an amazing celebration?
