My 6 month working holiday visa expired yesterday.
I am Australian so I can stay up to one year by applying for a 6 month extension while in Japan. I applied for my extension at the beginning of June and had not heard anything.
I just spent 3 hours at the shinagawa office to check my application status and the kind of just went "it's not ready, come back in 2 or 3 months".
I can stay on the waiting period for up to 60 days but after that it says I need to leave Japan.
I was planning on moving and travelling (as per the requirements of the working holiday visa) but I am anxious to sign a lease or even leave the area if there is a risk that I won't be able to renew my visa in time.
The phone numbers for enquiries to the visa office are also 'busy' or just straight up not connected so I don't know what else to do. When I checked online it said it should be processed within 2 weeks but the wait times have blown out in the last couple of months.
How strong is the possibility that I'll get deported?
