I (US citizen, 50+ years old) have a 100% fully remote position from a US company that pays over $70k. This meets the requirements for the new Digital Nomad visa, but that visa is only for 6-months and cannot be renewed – https://www.mofa.go.jp/ca/fna/pagewe\_000001\_00046.html. You also need to wait 6 months after the end of the visa before re-applying. Does anyone have experience using the Digital Nomad visa? It looks like the Working Holiday visa is good for a year but also cannot be renewed. Also, the US is not listed under the Working Holiday program at https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/w_holiday/index.html and that seems to be limited to people no older than 30.
It would be nice to perhaps rotate between a Digital Nomad visa and a Working Holiday visa to stay year-round in Japan, with short trips outside of Japan, between the visa submissions. Anyone have any thoughts on the feasibility of that?
