I went to Japan last November and decided I want to go back this year! Last time I hit the golden route (Tokyo-Osaka-Kyoto) and added day trips to Nara and Himeji, this time I’m looking for some off the beaten path options. I will be there for 3 weeks mid November through the first week of December. I definitely want to hit Osaka and Tokyo again, since Osaka was mostly just a hub for day trips last time.
Part of me wants to hit Hokkaido, but I’m not certain what the experience is like in November. I may end up working my way south instead, hitting Hiroshima/miyajima and maybe hitting some islands. I’m not familiar with much else though! I’d love some recommendations, especially if I can see some great autumn foliage. I’m wanting a more laid back exploration oriented trip, last time it was very hectic and city oriented.
