How to meet people as a foreigner who does not speak Japanese in Kagoshima?

I moved to Kagoshima about a month ago and have met about 5 people so far on a basis that I can hang out with them. I am looking to meet more to boost myy circle while also interacting with more people. Interacting with locals has so far been difficult as I do not speak Japanese other than the few phrases I learnt from DuoLingo.

I do go out a lot and mostly alone so it can be rewarding, don’t have to worry about other people’s schedules etc but also get lonely at times.

Btw, I am a brown guy working as an English teacher.

  1. You have an additional problem in Kagoshima because of Kagoshima dialect, which is difficult to understand even for Japanese people from other areas of Japan. Assuming your students are adults, ask them for recommendations on places where you can go to make friends with the locals. If you’re into physical fitness, maybe join Seika in Amu Plaza and work out there several times a week.

  2. Hobbies, meetups, volunteering, Irish pubs, search past posts in this sub and DM people who live here, etc.

There’s also an International Exchange Center. Dunno anything about its services but might be worth a look.

    Edit:

I forgot. There’s a cluster of food stall restaurants near Chuo station called Yatai-mura. The previous Yatai-mura at a different location was quite a mingly place. This one might be, too, so take a look! Good luck!
