Anyone can take a loss. No one is protected.
Compared too previous G1s it's pretty clear certain guys will not take too many losses. The minimum was 2. For example, last year we knew Okada,Ospreay,and Sanada were all going to be protected. And at least take 1 or two losses.
Let's take Okada for a example. Okada is almost always protected in the G1 whether he was the champion or not. At most he would take 2 loses. Compare that to Naito or Finaly who are the two major champions. They've taken far more losses.
This is probably the most open G1 we've had in years because anyone can lose. Which is exactly what the G1 is for.
