Hi folks! I will be travelling alone to Tokyo for 7 days in early September and would really appreciate some feedback on my itinerary/advice on the parts I'm not sure about. My interests include museums, art galleries, anime/nerd stuff and cool buildings/landscapes so I tried to incorporate those as much as possible. Please note that I have never planned a trip in my life so I am pretty terrible at this. Also I booked the trip through a travel agent so I didn't have much input on flight times/accommodation.
(Day 0: Flight from London to Tokyo)
Day 1: Arrive at Haneda airport at 9:15am (flight time is a bit awkward but I can't change it unfortunately). Drop off bags at hotel in Shibuya then kill time exploring the area until hotel check-in at 3pm. Could potentially check out Yoyogi park, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku and Shibuya Center-Gai but depends on how tired I am.
Day 2- Guided bus tour which lasts all day (starting in Shinjuku at 10:30am). Includes visit to the Ghibli museum and Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum. After leaving the tour at the Ghibli museum, I was thinking of spending the evening in nearby Kichijoji, possibly getting dinner and listening to live music at the SOMETIME jazz bar.
Day 3- Visiting Asakusa in the morning to check out the Senso-ji Temple, Nakamise-dori, and Tokyo Skytree. Going to TeamLabs Borderless in the afternoon. In the evening I have a guided tour around Golden Gai & Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku.
Day 4- Visiting Hakone. I was thinking of roughly following this itinerary I found online: https://www.hakonenavi.jp/international/en/course/244 . It involves riding the Hakone Tozan train and cable car to visit the Open Air Museum and Owakudani, then travelling across Lake Ashinoko by boat to see the Hakone-jinja shrine. I will have a Hakone Free Pass to make transportation easier. Staying overnight in a ryokan.
Day 5- Not totally sure about this one. I could either spend the morning in Hakone checking out anything I missed the previous day or go straight back to Tokyo. I was thinking of looking around Nakano Broadway in the afternoon, but if I go back to Tokyo earlier I might also check out the Ikebukuro area.
Day 6- Looking around Akihabara, Ueno and Kanda. I'm particularly interested in visiting the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in Ueno, Jinbocho, and the Imperial Palace near Kanda.
Day 7- Also not sure about this one. I definitely want to visit Odaiba but I don't think it will take a whole day. Any recommendations of other must-see places would be appreciated. Spending the night at a hotel close to Haneda airport for an early flight the next day.
