Uber or airport bus from Kansai?

We will be landing at 18:10 on Sunday night at Kansai terminal 1. I was looking at the Kansai Airport Bus Website and saw that it takes an hour to get to the Herbis Osaka Station which is next door to the Hilton Osaka. The only thing is is that my wife requires a mobility scooter to get around and I’d have to deal with offloading two suitcases and a collapsible scooter. Would taking an Uber be faster and the better option as it is door to door service? I’ve not used Uber before. Can I prebook a ride while I’m waiting for my connecting flight from Narita to Kansai?

  1. There is no Uber taxi in Japan. Your choices are a regular taxi, bus, or train. With the train, staff would help your wife to get on and off each train.

  2. I’d bet the lowest hassle considering scooter would be to take the Haruka express train.

  3. I don’t think Uber is active in Osaka. The airport bus is large and has storage underneath for suitcases, but there are stairs to get to the seats (it’s kind of like a tour bus)so that may be difficult for your wife. You could get a taxi from the airport (I imagine there will be plenty waiting there) or you could use the GO app to “order” a taxi

  4. since Uber is not an option I can’t really answer your question, but why not take the train? It’s easier, more comfortable, and fast

  5. Take the airport bus. The lugguage goes in the compartment under the bus. The staff will load it for you. They won’t let you load it yourself.

There are about three steps you have to climb to enter the bus, if she can do that.

Those who are recommending the train have never taken the bus. You can get on the bus right outside of the terminal. To take the train, you will have to drag your lugguage to the station. And once you get to Umeda by train, it’ll be a nightmare for you. I know you aren’t thinking of the train anyway…

  6. If there is no problem to fit in a bus seat, I recommend the bus a million times. People will help you loading and unloading luggages so no worries. And it’s the fastest most direct route.

  7. Uber does exist in Japan, along with Uber Eats, I have used both various times in Osaka. Airport ride can be very expensive though, mine cost £100+, so proceed with caution!

  8. Uber is not active in Osaka. It just links you to local taxis, and is therefore, very expensive. Take a train. The staff there will help your wife.

  9. You could also try an MK taxi/van which is a set price. Checking now, it’s a set price depending on the vehicle, starts at 14,800 and the service is very convenient. I have used them a couple times for work and always impressed. I see they also have a Bentley taxi available if you are a high roller.

If you do end up taking the bus, the KATE airport bus stops first at hankyu Osaka station and then it stops at Herbis Plaza (7min after hankyu). Herbis plaza is literally 300-400 feet from the Hilton Osaka.

    Enjoy your stay!

  10. I tried to search in the website and found this description:

    【車いすについて】

    一般リムジンバス車両は低床式(ノンステップバス)ではございませんので、車いすのままご乗車していただくことはできません。折りたたみ式の車いすはトランクルームにお預かりいたします。

    For Passengers with Disabilities
    [Wheelchair]

The buses are not non-step type therefore, it is not possible for passengers to getting on and remain seated in wheelchair during the travel. If the wheelchair can be folded, we can store it in the luggage compartment. If you have an electric wheelchair, please contact us in advance with its size and weight information.

I think when you arrived at KIX, have a discussion first with the bus staff (ground staff). There are some staff that will help you in front of ticket machine.

If you want to use taxi, use this website to calculate the taxi fare:

    [KIX Bus and Route Fare](https://www.kansai-airport.or.jp/en/access/bus)

Scroll down, and find the “Step 2. Search the routes”. Type your destination, select taxi, and it will show you the cost (around 20.760 yen)

  11. Taking taxi in Japanese is quiet expensive, if you don’t mind paying 20k yen then it’s for sure more convenient but as alternative maybe you can yamato your luggages to your hotel, bring only backpack with your essentials good for 2 days then take train.

  12. I was just in Japan & used the taxi’s when we were coming & going to the airport out of conveniences the train system is complex and if you don’t ask sometimes you’ll be stuck looking around. We also used the taxi when we were too tired and reading the comments.. we never paid 24,000 yen for a taxi ride. DiDi is an app you can use to order a taxi, helpful if there are no taxis around. The most we paid was 4500 yen. If you think about it, an Uber from the airport to your house would probably be the same price too. With carrying around luggage and a scooter I would recommend a taxi so you’re not rushing in a train or bus. Give yourself some peace and then use the trains/buses during your trip. 🙏🏼

  13. Taking the bus isn’t a bad idea but be aware that the scooter will likely not be placed under the bus with the rest of the luggage, so consider that you will have to carry it on the bus and sit with it next to you. I had to travel recently with oversized luggage and while it worked, it was stressful.

The train is probably the best bet for transportation with the scooter, but the difficulty lies in the luggage. Depending on the time of day, the train gets really crowded after a certain point and you will be struggling to avoid bumping into people.
If you can, send your luggage ahead of yourself in this case.

Last, taxis will destroy your wallet.
