As I learned more and more Japanese words(let's talk about foreign words translated into Japanese), I noticed that some or most of the words that are translated(loaned?) into Japanese are just based on pronunciation, so what if I want to translate something(a foreign word that I don't know what it is in Japanese yet) into Japanese? I could just translate foreign words directly using the Katakana syllabary but the translation I will make might be wrong just like the ノート(notebook). There's just a "note" but there's no "book" when translated. So are there alternatives that are also right when translating foreign words into Japanese?
I know that not all loan words can be joined in Japanese since they might have a literal translation. But I'm not aware if I look dumb asking this question, lol
