Stay a few nights around Mt. Fuji or day-trip from Tokyo?

Hi all,

Going in November (22nd-13th December) and in 2 minds about having a stay-over in Mt Fuji. Worried it will throw the trip out of whack a little bit (planning on going Tokyo –> Kyoto/Osaka –> back to Tokyo to fly out).

The current plan is to spend 1-2 nights in Fuji between Tokyo and Kyoto, (or possibly between Kyoto-Tokyo on the way back) however we are a bit concerned that it's a bit awkward getting there/back to Tokyo then going to Kyoto.

So we are now considering a day trip from Tokyo. Has anyone done this before?

We mainly want to:
– Have a look around the lake Kawaguchiko area, check out Chureito Pagoda, and maybe fujiQ if the weather is nice. We initially planned to just spend a day there (from wake up-dusk) but we may day-trip if it's feasible.

Is this a reasonable day trip to fit all of that in and not feel too pressured for time?

Another reason we may head there soon after arriving is there will be slightly better fall foliage late November vs. early December
