Struggles as a junior dev in Japan

Hi everyone, looking for advice from those of you who started out in the IT industry while in Japan.

I switched from English teaching to IT over a year ago after graduating from a coding bootcamp but am feeling a bit stuck in my position right now. Basically I got a job at an IT dispatch company and they told me that I would be doing programming, but instead I have been doing mainly IT project support (turns out they wanted to use my bilingual skills more 😅). This has been concerning me because as it stands now I'm unable to gain the direct on-the-job coding experience I need to advance in my career as a developer. After doing my career switch and working for a Japanese company for a while, I've decided I want to work for a foreign company instead (not just because being able to speak in English is way less stressful for me but also because the company culture and pay seems generally better). Have been searching for half a year and got close two times but ultimately my lack of experience + slim pickings for juniors who want to work in English has been stopping me from finding good work. Have been considering expanding my search to other countries – wherever I can find the best job!

Keeping at applying for things for now but would like to hear others' experiences to gain a wider perspective on things.
