Hi, I just moved to the Mie prefecture and I don't think the 40 min bike commute will cut it for me. Im looking for a car 500,000 yen as a maximum budget. From what I've researched, id probably be looking at a used kei car or something. I have a few questions because I don't want to do it wrong, and I speak very little Japanese so far.
- Private dealer or dealership
I looked on Facebook and I've seen some vehicles for under 200,000, some even with the shaken done already. My concern is the "too good to be true" thing. If the shaken has been done I shouldn't need to worry about getting scammed with a car that will need repairs in a few months right? Or is it better to just go to a dealership and go that route?
- Lease or buy?
I'm not staying long term, 1-3 Years at most, but is leasing worth considering? Would I need to pay for tires, shaken, maintenance, etc?
Is there a brand or a type of kei car to avoid? I don't care really about features, I would just like A/C, and for it to be a car that is fairly reliable and cheap to maintain.
Any general advice or recommendations.
Edit: Is bargaining normal here like it is in the US or should I not even bother?
