Been wracking my brain for a while about this one.

So I recently learned questions using Kore and Sore. As far as I'm aware, you say "Korewa ___desu ka?" for "Is this ___?"

But what I'd like to know is this. Does the wording change when you swap the first two words in english?

Using cake as an example object, here's what I'm talking about.

"Is this cake?" Speaker does not know what the object is, thinking it might be cake.

VS

"THIS is cake?" Speaker is aware that the object is cake, but is questioning the validity of that statement.

Is this equivalent in Japanese? If so, how do I change the wording to reflect it?
