Japanese Fluency

I'm aspiring to apply this fall as an ALT for the 2025 season. I was just curious as to what people's general proficiency/fluency is in Japanese prior to starting?

Bonus question: What service(s), program(s), and/or learning methods have you used that seemed beneficial over others?

I myself use Pimsleur while driving, as they're audio lessons, and I find it helpful, but am open to shifting or adding another method!
