PS: don’t forget to install the noto fonts too. Noto is this big font project for everyone, so It must have Japanese versions too. (don’t install all of them, it’s gigabytes of fonts)
I’ve tried a few options, but the one I’m using right now (and the one that I found works better, I’ve had issues with other options on qt apps) is ibus + anthy. I suggest you read the arch wiki page to set it up
Bonus point: if you use duolingo on pc, there is a way to make it so your IME automatically switches between romaji and kana input depending on the kind of question you get
