Anyone work in trades in Japanese, where you have to use US inch and fractions? I have worked in the UK, in Canada, and in the US in the trades, and problems with inch and fractions are not a real issue.

After trying to teach and Japanese persons how to read an English measure measuring tape, I have realized that there is some real "getting used to it" that makes it hard to handle this stuff. Also 90 and 19 are basically the same sound to people who do not have some feel for how long 19 inches is.

That and the natural tendency to count in native language made for a frustrating day where I had to call out the measures and then try and figure out what the hell they wrote.
