Japan’s fixation with Dvorak’s From The New World

So it was 2011 when I first heard this musical piece, and it was actually as a remix in the japanese videogame Catherine.

It also became one of my favorite compositions, but that’s outside the scope of this post, because a few years later another remix popped up, this time in another game, Killer is Dead (2013).

I thought, mh, strange, but it’s cool.

But then, I find it in yet another game, Asura’s Wrath.

And it didn’t stop there but by now I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen it appear: there was at least a japanese movie, some trailers and I might swear it was even in an anime.

To top it all of, I’m currently rewatching an old movie, “Noroi”, dated 2005: and there it is again.

And I really wanted to scratch this itch I’ve been having for the longest time, but to my surprise, searches like “from the new world japan” and similar never yielded any decisive response as to why it seems that this musical piece is so popular. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if someone living in Japan had heard it in other stuff like tv shows, so I’d really like to know if it’s just my brain that has convinced itself that Japan has a fixation with this piece (much like Au Claire du Lune and Cavalcade of the Valkyries in the west) or if it really is quite widespread there.
