I've been to Japan a couple of times and I'm really excited to take my girlfriend this November. I'm planning on doing something a bit unorthodox by skipping Kyoto, because the amount of tourists really diminished the experience for me last time, instead opting to see more of the countryside. Feel free to tell me if you strongly disagree with skipping Kyoto.
Days 1-4: Tokyo
Shibuya and Shinjuku
Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park
Asakusa and Senso-Ji Temple
Akihabara and shopping in Harajuku
Shimokitazawa
Odaiba, Roppongi and Tsukiji
Days 5-7: Hakone and Mount Fuji Area
– Hakone open-air museum
Stay in ryokan, enjoy onsen
Hakone ropeway and Lake Ashi
Lake Kawaguchi and the Chureito Pagoda
Days 8-10: Kanazawa and Shirakawa-Go
Kenrokuen Garden
Higashi Chaya District
Kanazawa Castle and Nagamachi Samurai District
Shirakawa-Go
Depending if we're able to expand the itinerary by a few days, we'd also consider adding Nikko, Nagano and/or Takayama. After Tokyo, we really just want a peaceful and quiet autumn vibe for the remainder of the trip. Any thoughts or recommendations would be welcome!
