Hakone on November 3rd (culture day)

Hi all,

I'll be going on a 16-day trip to Japan with my partner and we're currently thinking about spending the first 7 nights in Tokyo, followed by 1 night in a Hakone ryokan and then split 7 nights between Osaka/Kyoto, with 1 last night in Tokyo prior to departure.

Based on our current (very preliminary) itinerary, we'll arrive in Hakone at c. 12pm on November 3rd. Should we change our plans? How crowded is everything expected to be due to culture day? Will travel to Hakone be problematic (we'll be traveling without a car)?

Will we be better off arriving in Hakone on November 2nd (and departing to Kansai on November 3rd) or will travel still be an issue?
