Hello,
I am an American and some time ago while in Japan I was accused of assaulting a Japanese citizen.
In order to conclude things as quickly as possible and return back to the US I agreed to a settlement with the accuser.
After receiving the settlement money the Japanese citizen withdrew their complaint, Japanese authorities concluded their investigation, the case went to the prosecutor where it was concluded with a non-indictment, and shortly after I returned to the US.
Fast forward to present day I am engaged to a different Japanese citizen who I met in the US. We have spent our entire relationship here in the US, but would like to visit her family before we get married.
Will I have any issues returning to Japan to visit my soon to be in-laws? Do I need to follow any specific procedures when trying to re-enter the country?
Thanks for any information/advice.

No indictment, no problem.
Can I ask what happened with the assault? Was it a bar fight? Domestic incident?
Likely to be domestic violence as he talked of being engaged with [another] Japanese citizen.
Don’t bring it up if you don’t have to and if you think you might, ask a lawyer what to say
