Hi all,
I'm in the process of getting a WHV (Canadian, so six months with intention to extend to 12), and I'm trying to figure out my housing situation.
I've read through the wiki, and as far as I understand it'll be hard, if not impossible, to get a standard lease while on a WHV.
So I've been using realestate.co.jp to look for places and it's all looking within budget so far. The only thing is: I'm planning on taking this year off work and just live off of my savings. Has anyone had experience with this?
Looking for a furnished apartment or house in Tokyo (23 wards), budget of 500,000JPY/month for rent. I am for example willing to pay the full year up front to alleviate any concerns regarding income, are landlords usually flexible in such ways?
Finally, the wiki says that trying to get any of this done before arriving in the country is usually a dead end. Is this still true? I would very much like to hit the ground running as it were.
Would appreciate any feedback or insights on this, or even if someone has had similar experiences an agent or agency, or service they can recommend.
Thank you!

500,000 is a pretty large budget. Have you considered Airbnb or Booking to find a place month-to-month? There are tons of places on there that would fit your budget and it would give you tons of flexibility if your extension doesn’t pan out.
