The first 10 nights of a 19 night trip (solo/first time)

Day 1. Tokyo

  • Arrival HND at 15:00
  • Check into hotel in Otemachi
  • Askusa – Senso-ji at night
  • Akihabra for dinner
  • Back to hotel for bed

Day 2. Tokyo

Morning: Fall Colors

  • Meiji Jingu/Yoyogi Park
  • Harajuku
  • Shinjuku Gyoen

Afternoon/Evening : Shibuya Sky and Dinner

  • Shibuya Scramble
  • Shibuya Sky
  • Nonbei Yokocho 

Day 3. Takayama

  • 10:22 train to Takayama
  • Check into hotel and chill.

Day 4. Takayama

Morning

  • Morning Market
  • Higashiyama Walking Course
  • Takayama Jinya
  • Relax (in-room onsen)
  • Dinner at Sakurajaya or another suggested restaurant

Day 5. Shirakawa

  • Takayama Old Town shop and stroll
  • 13:50 Bus to Shirakawa
  • Check in at Shiroyamakan
  • Afternoon/ Early Evening tour of Shirakawa led by the hotel staff

Day 6. Kanazawa

  • Shirakawa Observation deck
  • Tour a minshuku
  • 10:25 bus to Kanazawa
  • Omicho Market
  • Geisha Tea Ceremony in Kazuemachi
  • Check into hotel in Higashi Chaya
  • Poke around town
  • Crab dinner someplace

    :Day 7. Kanazawa

Morning:

  • Personalized guided tour of the city
  • Chopstick making class
  • Foot massage (maybe back at hotel)

Afternoon

  • Return to anywhere I want to see more of..
  • Sushi dinner somewhere really, really good
  • Late stroll near hotel

Day 8. Nara

  • Omicho Market for breakfast/lunch
  • 10:04 train to Nara
  • Check in to hotel
  • Todaiji and Kofuku-ji Temples.
  • Walk through and around the park
  • Dinner at hotel
  • Sarusawa Pond

Day 9: Koyasan

  • 10:30 train to Koyasan
  • Explore area
  • Check-in at shukubo
  • Ajikan meditation and relaxation
  • Vegetarian dinner at shukobo
  • Okunoin Temple and Night Cemetery Tour

Day 10: Miyajima (This is the only negotiable night)

9:07 train to Hiroshima

  • Peace Memorial Park
  • Ferry to Miyajima
  • Check-in at ryokan

Notes:

– The next 9 nights are split between Kyoto (5nights), Hakone(2nights), and Tokyo(2 nights).

– I am forwarding luggage from Tokyo to Kanazawa, Kanazawa to Kyoto, and Kyoto to Tokyo

  • I'm still not entirely certain about Shirakawa and Miyajima. I know it would make the trip easier to skip one or the other (or both), so I'll take any advice based on your own experiences.
