So I am going through the N2 reading of the Shinkanzen books and though it is giving advice I am still getting confused and getting the answers wrong for the questions.
Other than the usual read lots of Japanese books (which I am doing), what else can I do for actually tackling the questions? Even when I do things such as only reading the first paragraph and last paragraph fully, and then reading the first sentence and last sentence of each other paragraph (as some tips have said) it still doesn’t seem to help :/

I don’t know about you, but I’ll be working on getting my reading speed up.
Since I mostly read for fun, I go at a leisurely pace — about as fast as I can speak, which is pretty much guaranteed to kill my 読解 score especially.
