I’m an American living in Japan, and whenever I travel to the US with my Japanese wife, they usually let her go through the immigration check at the airport with me. The line for Americans is much shorter and easier from what I understand. This last time when we returned back to Japan, we noticed the line for Japanese people was incredibly shorter than the foreigner line. We asked the officer if we could go together given our situation and he repeatedly said “foreign this way, japanese that way” as if he were some kind of npc. I understand Japan and the US are not the same and have different rules, but I’m wondering if this rule in particular really just depends on who’s working their that day, or if I should’ve kept my mouth shut and walked to the Japanese line. I’m just trying to imagine in the future if I have a kid in Japan, will they send those two together and have me kick rocks or what lol. So my question is this: How many of you are usually allowed with your wife, and how many of you are separated?
