Preparation for business development

Hello all,

since the my last visit to Japan I've been toying with the idea to open a business in Japan (Web-Development Studio). I already own an established development studio in Germany and would like to branch out with the end goal of staying longer in Japan (which only works for me if there's also a feasible business case).

Now I don't want to jump in hastily but test the waters first. Last year I've hired a business developer and sales people in Japan to support my endeavours. It resulted in ZERO leads to anywhere. Not clients (which was expected) but also not even potential meetings, calls or interest from agencies. A bummer. This was remote from my part though which I guess made things even more impossible.

I'm visiting again in November and would like to take the chance to network and meet web agencies / freelancers / other creatives etc. and introduce myself as a freelancer/studio and maybe as an additional asset to work with foreign clients. I'm not looking for work, but only to make an intro, stay in touch that something might come from it in the future.

What would be the best way to connect to likeminded industries? Write directly an email? Connect on linkedin? I've checked meetup but there don't seem to be any real networking events (for foreigners). I have no trouble to invest into something, if that helps the case.

Unfortunately I don't speak Japanese :/

Thanks so much for any input you might have. Please let me know if another sub would be better suited.
