Thinkin about moving in the future.

Hello, the itch came up recently and I have been thinking about what moving looks like. I'm an American currently studying History in Germany for a Masters due to the costs. Long term I want to get a PhD and teach/work at an uni. I'm specializing in History around the region here and could see myself getting my PhD in the Nordics due to the cost. I was curious and was looking at English-speaking graduate and post-graduate degrees and there does not seem to be a lot. Thought I did see a master's program in Japanese Humanities. The program looks to be around history and gaining skills in looking at Japanese primary sources. Which seems up my alley. I like Japanese history and architecture. I was recently inspired by the work being done in Nara around the old Palace and Pagodas.

I am curious if anyone here works at a uni that could shed light on my thoughts. I have seen there are some European Studies programs. Could my skills be seen as useful at the PhD level coming over and taking language classes? Would it make more sense to backtrack for another master's? There was also a thought about an interdisciplinary approach by combining Scandinavia and Japan then intersecting on similar things that one could compare. I'm not sure how useful an interdisciplinary approach is concerning academics there. I'm currently 33 by the time I'm done with a PhD I could be around 40 could this hurt my chances of trying to work there? I been trying to come at this from all angles and checking myself if this is something that I would want to pursue or if I'm just having a mood right now about it. I'm currently in my ' anything is possible phase' after getting the courage to move abroad and study again, so everything feels like I could do that. Thanks for all of your time.
