  1. [A Japanese article](https://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXZQOUA110E20R10C22A9000000/) on the subject with more quotes makes reference to the appeal of Japan in autumn and winter, implying they want the tourist wave to arrive in time for these seasons.

A reopening sometime in October seems quite likely…

**Edit:** [Published just now](https://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXZQOUA111730R10C22A9000000/), the limit on daily arrivals will be gone ‘by October’. (It’s unclear if this means before or during October.)

  2. I don’t really understand the requirement for the package tour part. If anything I think the tourists that aren’t a part of the packaged tours tend to be better behaved.

  3. Pretty annoyed since they annouced the unguided tours for less than a week ago and I already paid for my erfs for a November trip. Why didnt they just annouce this at the same time and spear everyone a good few hundred dollars.

  4. Mentioned this before and I’m sure others have but JP government likes to release news like this unofficially to gauge impact with the public.

Remember the 50k limit and PCR test removal news? It was mentioned by various sources before it became official a week or two later.

Very high hopes for October reopening if they’re releasing this now. I doubt blowback by the public will be very negative at this point since the yen absolutely face tanking itself is much bigger news.
