Hi folks, I am visiting Japan during Christmas holidays. Needed inputs on the itinerary if it looks doable with my wife and my 1 yr old son. I am yet to book hotels.
Day 1 (24th Dec): Arrive at Haneda Airport 6AM touchdown. After clearing immigration start for Kyoto via Shinkansen/ bullet train.
Arrival at Kyoto around noon. Early hotel checkin and then around 3-4pm start for Kiyomizu dera and crossing via Sannenzaka, Ninenzaka to reach Yasaka shrine. Then head for dinner.
Day 2 (25th Dec): Kyoto sightseeing :
Morning 8AM: Fushimi Inari shrine (not the full hike), come back to Kinkaku ji then head for lunch. Visit Arashiyama bamboo forest and Tenryu ji post lunch.
Day 3 (26th Dec): Visit Himeji castle and then continue to Hiroshima (Peace park and museum) and then start towards Miyajima island for the Itsukushima jinja. Get back to Kyoto.
Day 4 (27th Dec): Half day trip to Nara with a stop on the way for Uji Byodo-in temple and then visit (Todai ji, Kofuku ji and Nara park) and back to Kyoto. Then post lunch, Toji temple and railway museum in Kyoto.
Day 5 (28th Dec) : Visit Keage incline and Nanzen ji, Eikando temple in the morning between 8-11AM. Hotel checkout and take the Shinkansen to Tokyo.
Arrive in Tokyo (Asakusa region) by 3pm, hotel checkin and then in the evening if possible Senso-ji temple or Tokyo skytree.
Day 6(29th Dec) : Tokyo sightseeing (National museum of Nature and science, Ueno). Evening Akhibara electric town and final stop Shibuya scramble crossing. Head back to Asakusa.
Day 7(30th Dec) : Mt Fuji – Lake Kawaguchiko day trip. Evening coming back to Shinjuku Metropolitan viewing deck and head back to Asakusa.
Day 8(31st Dec): Nikko day trip via Tobu Nikko. Visit Nikko Toshugu temples and kegon and ryuzu waterfalls.
Day 9(1st Jan): Flight at 10:30AM from Haneda.
I can shuffle plans in Tokyo if I have to. Any particular recommendation for new year eve in Tokyo? And is Osaka worth visiting as it will involve day travelling from Kyoto once more?
