Hello,
Hoping to get a review on an itinerary for Japan during the 2nd half of September. This will be my 2nd time going to Japan though this time I'm doing it solo (first solo trip). On my first trip a few years ago I went with a few friends and we hit up a lot of the major spots in Tokyo – Osaka – Kyoto so spending less time in these cities and focusing on surrounding areas.
Day 0:
- Land super late in Osaka (9:30 PM +)
- Staying near airport
Day 1:
- Train up to Osaka, stash bags in a locker
- Area around Shitenno-ji temple (didn't get to this on my first trip)
- Amerika-mura (if time permits)
- Train to Kyoto to sleep near Nishiki Market
Day 2:
- Saihoji Temple (kinda split on whether I should do this or not, might do Kiyomizu-dera instead since I didn't do it properly last time. Lmk if any opinions!)
- Explore Nishiki Market (did a walk through last time but didn't explore)
- Train to Hiroshima and sleep there
Day 3:
- Standard Hiroshima Itinerary
- Area around Peace Memorial Park
- Hiroshima Castle / Shukkeien garden
- Sleep in Hiroshima
Day 4
- Boat to Miyajima Island
- Standard Miyajima Island Itinerary
- Sleep in Hiroshima
Day 5
- Train down to Yokohama (staying here for next few days). Will leave pretty early since I know the train ride is a long one and can sleep on that
- Half day in Yokohama
- Checking out Red Brick Warehouse and Chinatown. Maybe ramen cup museum depending on time
Day 6
- Hakone day trip
- Open Air Museum, ropeway, pirate ship
- Back to Yokohama
Day 7
- Kamakura day trip
- Hasadera
- Kotoku-in
- Zeniarai Benten
- Tsurugaoka Hachimangu
- Hokokuji Temple
Was thinking of adding Enoshima Island as well but I think that might be too much. Will play it by ear depending on time.
- Back to Yokohama
Day 8
- Train up to Tokyo (Shibuya, I'll be staying here rest of my trip)
Generally just exploring Shibuya. I've done a lot of this area last trip like the Parco/Shibuya Sky/Crossing. Just looking for cool stores really.
Roppongi Hills area
- Zojo Ji Temple/area
- I enjoyed Team Labs borderless on my last trip so might do the Digital art museum
- Tokyo Tower (don't need to go up since I've done Shibuya Sky)
Maybe a night time cruise?
Day 9
- Akihabara exploring in the morning
- Ueno Park + Ameyoko Shopping District
I've heard stuff in Akihabara opens up late so will likely switch these two around.
- Ginza for window/actual shopping.
- Definitely want to hit up Muji and Uniqlo there.
Day 10
Figuring out what to do but I'll have a solid 6 – 7 hours. Something relaxing ideally, was thinking Shinjuku Gyoen Garden. I've been last time but we did a short walk through. Somewhere to watch trains would also be nice. Last trip I've done Imperial Palace, Ikebukaro, Asakusa/Tokyo Skytree, Harajuku, Shinjuku, Shibuya. Would love any recommendations on what to do!
- Late flight (9:30 PM +) at NRT. Figure I have to leave Tokyo at like 5:30/6 since transit is roughly an hour to the airport.
Thanks for taking a look!
