Are Japanese people accepting of preferred names?

For some context, I use a preferred name, and I'm hoping to go to Japan to study abroad soon. I'm curious if people there are accepting of preferred names (My preferred name is "Aspen"). My parent's aren't exactly the most accepting of LGBTQ+, so I was just curious if I would be able to ask teachers/host family that I prefer to be called that vs my birth name that's on my program. I hope this made sense.
