Heading to Japan for the first time in October and would be really grateful for a sense check of the logistics of our plans and anything we've missed out on.
We are mainly prioritising outdoor activity/nature/scenery. I feel like we are missing out on Onsen visits but not sure how to incorporate.
Day 1: Arrive in Osaka and tackle jet lag!
Day 2 & 3: Osaka area – no strict itinerary, we will be exploring on foot, visiting some temples and eating lots of food
Day 4:
– Train to Onomichi City
– Cycle the Shimanami Kaido trail
– Overnight in Imabari
Day 5:
– Bus & train from Imabari to Kyoto
– Kyoto bamboo gardens & temples
– Overnight in Kyoto
Day 6:
– Romantic train from Saka Torokko to Kameoka
– Return via boat
– Overnight in Kyoto
Day 7:
– Train from Kyoto to Takayama
– Restful afternoon
– Overnight in Takayama
Day 8:
– TBC but either bus to Shirakawa Go or the Shinhotaka ropeway
– Overnight in Takayama
Day 9:
– Train to Hirayu Onsen
– Bus to Kamicochi
– Hiking
– Return to Takayama for overnight
Day 10:
– Limited Express Hira to Toyama
– relaxed afternoon in Toyama
– Overnight in Toyama
Day 11:
– Japan Alpine Route from Toyama to Shinano Omachi
– Train to Matsumoto
– Visit Matsumoto castle
– Overnight in Matsumoto
Day 12:
– Train to Nakatsugawa
– Bus to Magome
– Hike Nakasendo Trail from Magome to Tsumago
– Overnight in Tsumago
Day 13:
– Hike Tsumago to Norjiri
– Train to Kiso Fukushima
– Overnight in Kiso Fukushima
Day 14:
– Train from Kiso Fukushima to Osaka International for a 5pm flight
