Dentist experience in Tokyo

Context: I broke a molar, and I have a particularly large cavity in one of my front teeth. I went to two dentists near my apartment in Shinjuku; both were small clinics where they first did an extremely quick and poor cleaning. Then they wanted to put a metal crown on my broken tooth (literally split in two) without giving me any options for other materials or treatments. This didn't seem right, so I looked for a clinic in Ginza where I could communicate in English. They removed the broken tooth and charged me $4,000 USD for a zirconia implant (They didn't offer me any options for materials or other treatments) Now they want to remove my front tooth and also put in an implant. I'm going to consult with another dentist to see if there's an option to save the tooth, but I'm concerned that I might end up with the same poor service or that they'll just try to take my money. Is this common? I'm starting to worry.
