I've lived in Japan two years under a religious visa, but my Visa expires the 24th, and strangely unlike last year, while my process has been ongoing, they did not give me an extension on my passport.
IF for some reason they reject me super last minute, am I allowed to return after a week or whatever on a tourist visa? I'm mostly asking because I have family flying to visit me the very end of the month and first few weeks of September, and obviously if I'm not here, that kind of defeats the main purpose of their trip.
Does anyone know if this is legal? Or would I get in trouble upon my return flight to Japan?
I'd hate to have to buy a flight to the US on days notice. So if I can return in time for my family, I'd love to just fly to Korea or Taiwan or something instead for that week, and then be able to buy cheaper US flights while on the tourist visa.
Anyone know the answer to this? I have a few Japanese friends trying to research, but they're not really getting results.
