Quick question about goshuin!

Hello everyone, in October I will be in Tokyo, Nikko, Kamakura, Hakone, Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, Kobe and Hiroshima and one of the activities I will definitely want to do it's receiving goshuin.

But I have a doubt.

When a goshuin is available both on paper and handwritten, how do you know? Do you always have to ask for the handwritten ones? Is it easy? I imagine that when you arrive you only see the paper ones and so you might be led to assume that it's just those, but I often read that it's both options.

If you have any other suggestions (do's and don'ts, what to ask, and maybe must-visits for goshuin) please go ahead.

Thanks!
