Me and my wife want to invite our girlfriend to live with us. Girlfriend is worried she will be left with nothing if me and wife die first, that neither will have rights related to each other in extreme situations (hospital visitations, emergency decisions, etc) and that she will be left out on tax and health insurance and feel like a "second". Adopting seems to be an easy and safe way to get some assurances. I'm looking for insights or real life reports of similar situations before contacting a lawyer to confirm everything.
It's not anyone's business, but since bad, thoughtless decisions are common in this sub: we are all adults in our 40s with plenty of life experience. Not hippies or members of any alternative group. Each has their own career and savings (none has much more or less than the other). Girlfriend already owns a house, but the plan would be to sell it and buy a new bigger one.
